In heavy commercial vehicles (trucks, busses and so on) an OBD II socket of type B is installed. In this the center bar is in the middle interrupted (SAE J1962/ISO 15031-3). This ensures that a type A plug (solid middle bar) of a car diagnostic device can not be plugged into a truck. This is necessary because trucks operate with 24 V electrical system and car only with 12 V. If a car diagnostic tool for 12V operated at 24 V, it can be damaged.
With this adapter, the battery voltage of 24 V is reduced and only the CAN signal is looped through. Thus, a diagnostic device for cars can used with this adapter. The tool may try out the other protocols because the necessary cables are not connected, nothing happens. Does the truck use one of these protocols, no connection is established. Only CAN can work. Does the truck use CAN, then the diagnostic unit can connect and work normally.
New: handy, smaller housing than the previous model
Technical data:
- Only usable for diagnosis via CAN
- Input voltage (plug type B): 14,5…30 VDC
- Output voltage (jack type A): 11,5…12,5 VDC
- Output current: max. 0,5 A
